The body pillar of Indwell. Wellfit is a physician-referred fitness program built specifically around the strength, balance, and stability that keep an older adult upright — a step beyond general senior fitness classes, and staffed to match.
Enrollment starts with a physician referral, and every client is screened before starting — including orthostatic and bone-health screening, coordinated with the referring physician. From there, small-to-medium group sessions focus on lower-extremity strength, balance, and core: Tai Chi, chair yoga, and resistance training, led by Athletic Trainers and Exercise Physiologists.
A weekly evening class — traditional American folk and square dance — opens the doors beyond the referral-gated core program, bringing broader community energy into the space while still delivering real balance and cardiovascular benefit.
Strength and balance are the two things that most directly determine whether a stumble turns into a catch or a fall. General senior fitness programs are a start, but Wellfit is built to go further — more hands-on, more dedicated to the specific movement patterns that protect against falling.
Research on structured balance and strength work — including approaches like Tai Chi and folk dance specifically — has found meaningful reductions in both fall risk and the rate of actual falls among older adults, alongside real gains in mobility, gait speed, and functional balance testing.
Wellfit is led by Athletic Trainers and Exercise Physiologists, not general fitness instructors — the same caliber of staff you'd expect from a clinical rehabilitation setting, in a space built to feel like a gym, not a clinic. Sessions are tracked for attendance and progress, without clinical documentation or "plan of care" language — Wellfit supports what a physician prescribes, it doesn't replace or override it.
